Several waves of Russian ballistic missiles hit Kyiv in the night to Saturday. In Solomianskyi district, residential buildings, a kindergarten and a commercial property were damaged, and three people were injured.

Three people were injured, including a child, in several waves of Russian ballistic missile strikes on Kyiv in the night to Saturday. This was reported by the Kyiv city administration according to the news outlet Ukrainska Pravda; the information is based on the Kyiv city administration and the State Emergency Service (DSNS).

According to this, the Solomianskyi district was particularly affected. Fires broke out there, and residential buildings, a kindergarten and a commercial building were damaged or destroyed. According to the State Emergency Service (DSNS), as also reported by the news agency Ukrinform, the ground-floor façade of a five-storey residential building was partially destroyed at one address; there was no fire and no casualties there. At three other addresses, the blast wave destroyed windows in five-storey buildings, and one person was injured. A two-storey building on the grounds of a kindergarten was destroyed by a direct hit, it was further stated. At another location, a parked lorry and a commercial building caught fire; the fire was extinguished.

According to the news outlet Ukrainska Pravda, the Kyiv city administration stated: “At two other addresses, two people were injured, including a child. In total, three people were injured in the attack.”

Warning of a new mass attack

The attack came only hours after President Volodymyr Zelensky had warned of another massive Russian attack on infrastructure. According to the Kyiv Independent, he said in the evening that intelligence information pointed to a new major strike against energy facilities, bridges and civilian infrastructure. The Kyiv Independent reports, citing its own journalists on the ground, that at least six missiles were fired at the city within a few minutes; the all-clear was given around 30 minutes later. Shortly before midnight, the alert sounded again, and shortly after 1 a.m. another wave followed, with at least six loud detonations. Further explosions occurred at 3:04 a.m. and 3:30 a.m. local time.

According to the Kyiv Independent, Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko reported explosions in the suburbs and warned that Russia was attacking infrastructure with ballistic missiles. Later he reported damage to a five-storey residential building in Solomianskyi and shattered windows in another five-storey building. The Kyiv Independent notes that the full extent of the consequences was not yet foreseeable at the time of publication and that the attacks were continuing.

Hits also in Kyiv region

Outside the capital, according to the Kyiv Independent, the governor of Kyiv region, Tymur Tkachenko, reported a drone attack in Brovary district in which a house caught fire. A man was rescued from the rubble and taken to hospital with burns and several shrapnel wounds. The Kyiv Independent summarises the casualty figures as at least three injured in the city and one further injured person in the region.

The capital, with around three million inhabitants and comparable in size to Berlin, has been under heavy shelling for weeks as Russia begins its annual campaign against the Ukrainian power grid. According to the Kyiv Independent, on 3 November the city experienced the largest attack on its energy supply this year, with widespread power outages and disruptions to the water supply. Ahead of winter, the city administration and the government are arguing over responsibility for the state of Kyiv’s energy infrastructure.

Editor’s note: The reports come from the night and were continuously updated. The Kyiv Independent announced further updates; the extent of the damage was initially not fully recorded.
