A bomb detonated in a Volkswagen sedan in Odesa’s Primorskyi district late Saturday evening, May 23, the Kyiv Post reports. The explosion occurred on Universytetska Street, causing severe damage to the vehicle and sparking a fire.
The two occupants survived the blast but sustained shrapnel wounds and a traumatic brain injury. Emergency crews and firefighters took the injured to a hospital. Police cordoned off the area, and specialists from the police and security service secured evidence.
The regional branch of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) in Oblast classified the incident as a direct attack on public safety and launched an investigation into a terrorist act. Investigators are examining the wreckage for bomb components, wire fragments, and chemical residues to reconstruct the device’s construction and detonation mechanism.
