In eastern Germany, a lot is at stake for the CDU, especially in Saxony-Anhalt. Schulze (CDU) and Chancellor Merz (CDU) have campaign appointments that are still being clarified, as Spiegel reports. The state party is deliberately distancing itself from its chancellor, even though Merz could certainly provide support on the campaign trail.

EuroPulse reported on June 6, 2026, about a text message from Kubicki to Merz with the content “Mission Impossible is completed” (https://europulse.today/kubicki-sms-merz-mission-impossible-completed/).
