Danny aus den Birken ends his ice hockey career

Former EHC Munich goaltender Danny aus den Birken has announced his retirement from professional ice hockey at age 41.

Danny aus den Birken, goaltender for Germany’s 2018 Olympic silver medal team and longtime netminder for Red Bull Munich, is ending his career. The 41-year-old wrote on Instagram: “When I look back, one thing stands out above all: gratitude.” He added: “For countless moments on and off the ice. For victories and defeats. For championships, the Olympic silver medal, lifelong friendships, and experiences that have shaped me.”

Aus den Birken was under contract with EHC Munich from 2015 to 2023, winning three DEL titles with the club (2016–2018). Most recently, he played for the Krefeld Pinguine and the Dresdner Eislöwen in the DEL2, helping both teams earn promotion to the DEL. The native of Düsseldorf played 47 international games for Germany.
