After a 6-2 victory over Hungary on Friday, Germany’s national team must beat Austria on Saturday (8:20 p.m. local time, ProSieben and MagentaSport) at the Ice Hockey World Championship in Switzerland. NHL star Moritz Seider made it clear: “Anything less than three points is not an option.” Only a win in regulation time keeps the chance of reaching the quarterfinals alive.
The pressure on head coach Harold Kreis’s team remains high. “We are slowly climbing out of the hole we dug for ourselves,” said Seider, a defenseman for the Detroit Red Wings. Leon Gawanke, who contributed significantly to the win over Hungary with three goals, expressed confidence: “We can go into the game with a good dose of self-confidence and anticipation.”
Head coach Kreis, however, warned against overconfidence: “Austria is a different caliber. It will be a hard-fought, physical game.” Seider added that the team must approach the match with an “all-or-nothing mentality,” just as they did against Hungary.
