Russia convened an emergency UN Security Council meeting to discuss a Ukrainian strike on an occupiers’ headquarters in Starobilsk in occupied Luhansk. According to 24tv, Russian diplomat Vasyl Nebenzia falsely presented the strike as an attack on a student dormitory, calling it a ‘war crime’ and ‘not accidental’.

Denmark’s UN representative Kristina Marcus Lassen sharply rejected Nebenzia’s accusations and lies. She stated that Russian claims cannot be commented on until they are independently verified. Ukraine, she noted, Russia and the occupied territories have no free media, no unrestricted access for independent international journalists, and no humanitarian organizations.

Lassen stressed that Russia must be held accountable for its crimes. Latvia’s representative also opposed Nebenzia’s narrative. Ukrainian UN Ambassador Serhii Kyslytsia called Nebenzia a ‘messenger of evil’ and urged the Security Council to support the Ukrainian peace formula.
