Deutsche Welle reports that at least 27 people were killed and dozens more injured in Russian attacks in eastern Ukraine overnight into Wednesday. The attacks took place only hours before a unilateral ceasefire proposed by Kyiv was set to begin at midnight (2100 GMT).

Ukrainian sources said a variety of weapon systems were used in multiple cities. In southeastern Zaporizhzhia, at least 12 people were killed and 20 injured after an attack involving guided aerial bombs was followed, the report says, by strikes from Iran‑designed Shahed drones. City official Rehina Kharchenko called the assault to Reuters a “cynical strike” on facilities in Zaporizhzhia and said the targets were then deliberately hit with Shahed drones.

In the north, the report says Kramatorsk was hit by heavy glide bombs, killing six people and wounding 12. Four people were killed in Dnipro, and an attack on gas production facilities in the Poltava region left five dead.

Ukrainian government officials accused Russia of ignoring the Kyiv‑announced ceasefire. Andrii Sybiha wrote on the social network X that Russia showed “no signs” of ending hostilities and described the attacks as an escalation of terror. He later said Russia had broken Ukraine’s unilateral ceasefire by launching 108 combat drones and three missiles against Ukrainian cities. Sybiha also stated that Moscow’s announced pauses for May 9 had nothing to do with diplomacy and were instead focused on military parades.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy strongly condemned the attacks as “cynical, vile,” Deutsche Welle reports.

The coverage also lists additional casualties and damage across several affected locations but gives no detailed information on individual perpetrators or investigations. The report did not cite independent confirmations of the figures mentioned.
