The Ukrainian capital Kyiv has again come under Russian attack. In the night of September 1, missile and drone strikes killed at least eight people and wounded five others, the Kyiv Independent reported, citing official sources. Among the injured are two children from the Solomyanskyi district.
Six of the dead were employees of the Ukrainian railway. They died when a ballistic missile hit a depot and other railway facilities, the head of Ukrainian Railways, Oleksandr Pertsovskyi, said on social media. “The ballistic attack killed seven people, six of them our employees,” Pertsovskyi said. Dozens of others managed to take shelter.
This is already the sixth consecutive night that Kyiv has been attacked with drones and missiles. Numerous fires were reported in the city, including in the Darnytskyi district, where a downed drone fragment sparked a blaze. Debris was also found in the Holosiivskyi district. Air raid alerts lasted for several hours overnight.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had previously said that Russia had used around 800 jet-powered drones in the first four days of the attack series. These are significantly faster than the Shahed drones previously used and harder to intercept.
