Thus, the DAX cannot build on its record high from Friday, when it reached the highest level in its history at 26,618.74 points. At the close of the week, the index had still ended trading 0.8 percent higher at 26,569 points.
Additional pressure came from the inflation data for Germany published on Monday. The inflation rate rose to 2.9 percent in August compared with the same month last year, after standing at 2.8 percent in July and 2.4 percent in June. Economists expect the inflation rate to temporarily exceed the three percent mark again in the coming months – a level last seen two and a half years ago.
Investors are also focusing on geopolitics. From Monday, the finance ministers of the 20 leading industrial and emerging countries (G20) are meeting. The USA, as host, wants to persuade the other participants to cease their economic relations with Iran and thus support the war against the country.
