The attack on the Kirishi refinery, which is Russia’s second-largest and the biggest in the country’s northwest, caused a fire on the plant’s premises. The facility processes about 20 million tons of oil annually, according to the General Staff, and produces motor, aviation, and diesel fuel that also supplies Russian troops.
Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces (SSO) said they carried out the strike together with the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), the State Transport Service (SST), and the Military Intelligence (HUR). A fire also broke out at the military airfield in Yeysk after it was hit. In addition, a site in Millerovo, Rostov region, where Russian attack drones are stored, prepared, and launched, was struck, and a fire erupted there as well.
The extent of the damage is still being assessed. Russian authorities in the Leningrad region had earlier reported an attack with more than 60 drones and confirmed a hit on the Kirishi refinery.
