Finnish Alexander Stubb warns against underestimating Russia: despite the severe economic crisis, Vladimir Putin will not end the war of aggression against Ukraine. Stubb said this in an interview with the Bild newspaper.

Stubb said that neither inflation, nor the banking crisis, nor high interest rates would move the Kremlin to give up. Even heavy losses among Russian soldiers would not change that. “I do not believe that Russia will end this war because of the economic downturn we are currently observing,” the Finnish president said verbatim.

Russia has patience and endurance, Stubb emphasized. A change of mind would only be possible once the Kremlin feels that continuing the war no longer benefits the regime. What is crucial is that Russia itself reaches this realization.

At the same time, Stubb expressed confidence in Ukraine: it is in a stronger military, political, and financial position than at any time in this war. He is convinced that Ukraine will prevail as an independent state. He also suggested that Europe should resume political dialogue with Russia in order to realistically assess the situation.
