Ukrainian forces struck Russian storage, preparation, and launch sites for attack drones near Donetsk and Gvardiyske in occupied Crimea on August 28 and 29. They also targeted an electronic warfare system near Znamianka in Crimea and a drone control point in Berestky, Donetsk region.
The full extent of the damage is still being assessed, according to the General Staff. After further data analysis, the Ukrainian military also confirmed the destruction of a Buk-M3 on August 28 near Klintsy in Russia’s Bryansk region.
The latest operations follow a series of FP-2 attack drone strikes against Russian military targets deep inside Russia. On August 25, independent open-source analysts reported that Ukrainian drones hit several radar stations, the Kamensky plant, and Millerovo military airfield in Russia’s Rostov region.
The attacks raise questions about how Ukrainian forces maintain drone connectivity outside Starlink coverage. Starlink normally enables drone operations in occupied territories and coastal areas, but is reportedly inactive deep inside Russia. French OSINT analysts and Russian military channels suggest Ukrainian forces use a network of repeater drones to relay communications over longer distances. The exact technology has not been independently verified, but the growing range of video-transmission drones marks a shift in operational capabilities.
