An Elbe pilot collapsed on Sunday aboard the container ship "Maxine". He was revived by a colleague and flown to hospital by helicopter.

The incident occurred off Heligoland as the roughly 300-meter-long ship was en route to Hamburg. Two pilots were to guide the “Maxine” into port when one of them suddenly collapsed.

His colleague immediately alerted maritime rescue services, which dispatched a helicopter and the multi-purpose vessel “Neuwerk” with rescue teams. While waiting, the pilot stayed on the radio with a paramedic at the control center and resuscitated the unconscious man following his instructions.

The helicopter flew the collapsed pilot to a hospital in Schleswig-Holstein. According to the German Maritime Search and Rescue Service, the man is now doing better. The “Maxine” is now docked at the Port of Hamburg.
