The natural pool in Ennigerloh in the Münsterland region remains closed as a precaution. The reason is dozens of cases of vomiting and diarrhea among children who had visited the pool. The health department of the Warendorf district is investigating a possible connection, a spokesperson said. The exact cause of the infections is still unclear, and the food monitoring authority has also been involved.
The children’s clinic in Ahlen saw a sharply increased number of children with gastrointestinal infections over the weekend. A total of 50 children were treated on Saturday and Sunday, six of them as inpatients. Three adults with similar symptoms sought emergency care. The clinic informed the health department because the cases are believed to be linked. However, a norovirus infection was ruled out.
According to the district, some of those affected also reported to the health department on their own. The latest laboratory tests and daily quality checks of the water showed no abnormalities, a spokesperson for the town of Ennigerloh said. During the hot days, the pool was very crowded. A new water sample was taken on Monday; results are expected toward the end of the week. Until then, the pool remains closed.
