The new sanctions specifically target sectors that finance Russia’s war effort in Ukraine. The ministers did not initially provide details on the concrete measures. The decision was made as part of the regular foreign ministers’ meeting in Brussels.
Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022, the EU has already adopted several sanctions packages. The measures include, among others, import bans on Russian oil and coal, as well as the freezing of assets belonging to Russian oligarchs and banks.
