The summit takes place one day after the G7 meeting. EU leaders aim to discuss further support for Ukraine in its defensive fight against Russia’s war of aggression. The situation in the Middle East following the Hamas attack on Israel and Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip are also on the agenda.
Another key topic is the competitiveness of the European economy. The EU is struggling to find a common line to compete globally with the US and China. Also at stake is the multi-year EU budget, which includes funds for Ukraine aid and the digital transformation.
