Farhad N. is alleged to have rioted and threatened staff with death while in pre-trial detention at Stadelheim. A judge at the Higher Regional Court ordered the measure after N. reportedly banged on his cell door in early May and threatened prison employees, saying he would kill them.
The judge sees these incidents as grounds for increased security measures. N. must now wear ankle shackles during the main trial, as a milder measure is not considered feasible. The defendant has been on trial since January for driving his car into a Verdi demonstration on February 13 of last year, killing two people.
The Federal Prosecutor’s Office assumes an Islamist motive. So far, there have been more than 20 trial days, during which numerous victims of the attack have testified. The defendant himself has not yet commented on the allegations.
