Formula E won’t race in Nuremberg: Plans fail

The Formula E will not visit Nuremberg in the 2026/27 season. According to the Abendzeitung-muenchen, negotiations for a street circuit at the Norisring have failed.

The reason for the cancellation is the new, faster GEN4 cars that will be used from the upcoming season. They accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 1.8 seconds and would have been too fast for the Norisring. The AZ reports that extensive structural modifications would have been necessary at the Norisring to allow the GEN4 missiles to unleash their potential while still meeting safety standards. Curves would have had to be softened and runoff areas expanded.

The only remaining German venue is Berlin. A race will take place at Tempelhof Airport on May 8 and 9, 2027. Dodds praised the flexibility of the track there, which can be designed modularly. Nevertheless, he did not rule out another attempt for Nuremberg: “Our continued presence at Tempelhof does not mean we would not consider two German locations in the future.”

The 2026/27 season comprises 21 races at 13 venues, including three new ones: Austin (USA), Zandvoort (Netherlands), and Brands Hatch (England). The calendar starts on December 18, 2026, in Jeddah and ends on July 25, 2027, in Tokyo.
