On June 20, 2026, the German government will hold the 12th memorial hour for the victims of flight and expulsion at the Konzerthaus Berlin. Since 2015, the day of remembrance has been observed annually on June 20, according to the government. It is linked to the United Nations World Refugee Day and expands the commemoration to include the fate of displaced persons.
Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) will deliver the opening address. Afterwards, a film will show impressions of the work of the DRK Tracing Service after the World War. Dominik Tomenendal will moderate a panel discussion with employees of the DRK Tracing Service and the German War Graves Commission.
Young people will present their volunteer work for the War Graves Commission in a film and on stage. The closing speech will be given by the President of the Federation of Expellees, Stephan Mayer (CSU). The musical accompaniment will be provided by scholarship holders of the Kurt Sanderling Academy Foundation of the Konzerthaus Orchestra Berlin.
