According to Minister Daniel Günther (CDU), the black-green coalition in Schleswig-Holstein is working smoothly. “I make no secret of the fact that cooperation with the Greens in the government is extremely good,” Günther told the news agency dpa. “We will continue to work together trustfully and successfully for the people in this coalition until the end.”
At the same time, the CDU politician emphasized that he wants to keep all coalition options open after the state election in April 2027. “I am very confident that we will be able to choose our partner as we did last time,” said Günther. “And sometimes I am good for surprises, as in the last state election. Back then, I decided to continue working with three parties because it was a successful alliance.” However, he had to accept that both coalition partners did not want this, Günther said.
In the 2022 election, the Union won 43.4 percent of the vote and missed an absolute majority by just one seat. Günther still wanted to hold on to the coalition with the Greens and the FDP, but in the end, black-green prevailed. For 2027, he announced that he wants to position himself on climate and environmental protection issues. “This gives us as the CDU the opportunity to position ourselves positively in this election campaign on the issues of protecting climate and environment and preserving creation,” said Günther.
“Monika Heinold wanted to replace me as minister president. Today, Aminata Touré wants to.” He assumes that Touré will focus very strongly on issues such as anti-discrimination and anti-racism. The head of government sees his state on a good path and pointed to progress in the energy transition, security policy, and digital sovereignty—for example, the conversion of the state administration to open-source solutions such as LibreOffice.
