27-year-old Till Ritzert completed his IT degree and applied for 117 positions, mostly as a software developer. Despite the industry’s shortage of skilled workers, he found no job and now receives citizen’s benefit, as Spiegel reports.
Ritzert told the magazine: “It’s really tough for entry-level workers right now.” His case shows that even a sought-after degree is no guarantee of a quick job. The high number of applications and rejections highlight the hurdles young academics face on the German labor market.
