The 30-year-old defensive midfielder joined Bayern from Fulham in summer 2024 for €51 million but struggled for playing time under coach Vincent Kompany. The Bavarians then loaned him to Tottenham for the past season.
In London, Palhinha played regularly and wanted to stay. “Who wouldn’t want to play for Tottenham and stay here? I have everything here. It’s like a marriage,” he said. Spurs had a €30 million purchase option but let it expire, instead signing compatriot Mateus Fernandes for nearly €100 million.
Palhinha said goodbye to Spurs fans on Instagram and is now back in the Bayern squad. According to Sky Sports, he could be interested in returning to his boyhood club Sporting Lisbon, but they have already signed five midfielders for around €80 million. A permanent departure before the transfer deadline is considered likely.
