Judge Juan Carlos Peinado has ordered the opening of the main proceedings against Begoña Gómez, the wife of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez. In addition, precautionary measures have been imposed on Gómez and Cristina Álvarez, an advisor at the Moncloa Palace. These include surrendering their passports and a ban on leaving Spanish territory without judicial authorization.

The judge initially refrained from confiscating the passport but reversed his decision, arguing that state bodyguards assigned to Fernández could facilitate her escape abroad. The investigation focuses on her work at the Complutense University of Madrid and her ties to private companies.

Gómez and Sánchez reject the allegations and consider them politically motivated. The Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office and the defense have again requested an acquittal and dismissal of the case, while the private prosecution insists on a trial.
