Voters in Maine head to the polls on Tuesday for primary elections, with the Senate candidacy of Graham Platner taking center stage, the Guardian reports. Despite a string of scandals, Platner is the favorite. His main opponent, former Governor Janet Mills, had previously suspended her campaign.
Platner, an oysterman and Marine veteran, faces allegations ranging from allegedly toxic behavior toward women to a tattoo identified as a Nazi symbol. The controversies have sparked debates within the Democratic Party about double standards and purity tests.
On Monday, Genevieve McDonald, a former political director for Platner’s campaign, published an op-ed in the Washington Post calling Platner unfit for office. “Graham Platner is not someone who would be good for Maine or the country,” McDonald wrote. “He shows a pattern of dishonest behavior that is impossible to ignore.” Despite the revelations, all signs point to most Democratic voters sticking with Platner.
On the Republican side, incumbent Senator Susan Collins leads the ticket. Polls show her trailing slightly behind Platner. EuroPulse reported on June 3, 2026, on the primaries in six states, including the scandal surrounding Platner (https://europulse.today/us-midterm-primaries-2026-results-six-states/).
