After a special session of the Union parliamentary group in Berlin, Merz said that no further changes were planned beyond the necessary replacements already made. The current personnel lineup is the right one to meet the challenges of the next two and a half years. In his view, there are “no considerations whatsoever” for further personnel changes.
Criticism of the cabinet reshuffle was triggered primarily by the manner in which Patrick Schnieder was dismissed. ZDF capital correspondent Diana Zimmermann reported that the waves have since calmed. The contributions in the parliamentary group meeting were constructive, and there was no revolt.
Merz announced that the goals and reform projects of the federal government would be communicated more clearly. Politics must be “explained more, communicated more.” The parliamentary group had wanted a better classification of the reforms – he takes this wish seriously. He expects a “new impulse” and a “new dynamic” for the coalition.
On Wednesday, the Union parliamentary group elected former Chancellery chief Thorsten Frei as its new chairman. Still open are the appointments of a state minister for sports in the Chancellery, a new treasurer for the CDU, and the parliamentary secretary of the Union parliamentary group.
