The explosion occurred Monday evening in the lobby of a small residential building in Monaco. An unknown person had left a package there, which detonated shortly afterward. Residents arriving home at the same moment were injured: a couple and a 13-year-old boy.

According to the prosecutor’s office, suspicion is directed at a woman who may have disguised herself as a man. Surveillance footage shows the person wearing a black fisherman’s hat. Authorities have opened an investigation for attempted murder and other offenses.

According to multiple sources, the injured are 58-year-old multimillionaire Vadym Yermolayev, his partner, and their son. Yermolayev, a real estate entrepreneur from the eastern Ukrainian city of Dnipro, was for years among the 100 richest people in Ukraine. He gave up his Ukrainian citizenship several years ago.

Yermolayev belongs to a group of businessmen and former oligarchs who settled on the Mediterranean coast after Russia launched its full-scale war of aggression against Ukraine. In Ukraine, this group is referred to as the “Monaco Battalion.” Since 2023, Yermolayev has been under Ukrainian sanctions for his business activities on the Russian-annexed Crimea.
