Munich’s ice-skating season is under way: the rink at the Prinzregentenstadion has been open since 31 October, weather permitting. If you plan to go with children, check the weekday schedule first – the rink is not open to the public every day.

Opening hours. During the autumn holidays, daily from 9:30 to 21:30. Outside Bavarian school holidays: Tuesday and Wednesday 9:30 to 16:30, Friday to Sunday and public holidays 9:30 to 21:30. On Mondays and Thursdays the ice is reserved for schools and clubs. Hours change again over Christmas: the rink closes at 14:00 on 24 and 31 December and opens from 12:00 to 20:00 on 1 January 2027.

Prices. A day ticket costs €7.20 (reduced €5.00); children and teenagers aged 6 to 14 and pensioners with proof qualify for the reduced rate. Under-sixes get in free with an adult. The evening ticket (Friday to Sunday after 20:00) is €5.60, reduced €3.90. The family day ticket is €20.50 for up to two adults and three children aged up to 14. Spectators without skates pay €1.50. Regular visitors can save 10 per cent per entry with the M-Bäderkarte (minimum top-up €25).

Tickets and skates. No online booking is needed. You can buy tickets in the municipal pools’ web shop and swap the QR code for a card at the entrance. Skates can be hired on site for a fee; SWM does not publish the price. Free skating aids for beginners are available in limited numbers.

Good to know. Every Sunday from 10:00 to 11:00 the Münchner Eistanzfreunde give free ice-dance lessons – waltz, tango and the “Münchner Dipferl” – provided you can skate forwards and backwards confidently. From 9 November two synthetic ice-stock (Eisstock) lanes will open on site, and a new restaurant, “anasa mare”, overlooks the ice.

Getting there: Prinzregentenstraße 80, 81675 Munich – U4 to Prinzregentenplatz or tram 17 to Friedensengel/Villa Stuck. Information: +49 89 2361-5050 (Mon–Fri, 8:00–18:00).

Our assessment: for a family with three children the family ticket is the cheapest way onto the ice in Munich, well below what many private winter rinks charge. The catch is the weekday schedule; working parents will realistically go on Friday evening or at the weekend, when it is busier. Prices and hours are checked against SWM; operation depends on the weather.
