Norwegian Foreign Espen Barth Eide has spoken out against Europe acting as a mediator in potential peace talks between Russia and Ukraine. According to the Kyiv Post, Eide instead argued for increased military support for Ukraine from European states.
Estonian and EU officials echoed this assessment. They argued that a neutral stance by Europe would weaken its negotiating power and could ultimately benefit the Kremlin. The positioning comes against the backdrop of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, which has been ongoing since February 2022.
