According to Tagesspiegel (Saturday edition), citing government sources, the appointment is already certain. The commission was agreed upon by the Union and SPD in the coalition agreement. Details such as the exact terms of reference and the composition of the panel still need to be clarified, it was said.

The so-called North-South commission is to include around 20 members from countries of the Global South and North. Scholz and his team are to be officially presented at a sustainability conference in Hamburg at the end of June, according to the report. The model is a similar group chaired by former Willy Brandt in the late 1970s.
