Vladimir Putin stated that he believes the situation in the Ukraine war is approaching an end. This remark came during a rare press conference held after May 9, Victory Day. However, this year's celebration was marked by an unusual format, as no military vehicles were present on Red Square.
The Russian government justified the reduced parade by citing security concerns, particularly due to the threat of Ukrainian drone attacks. According to BBC correspondent Steve Rosenberg, the number of journalists and foreign guests at the parade was significantly lower than in previous years.
The Economist described the diminished military presence as a sign of Russia's growing vulnerability. The Times noted that the shortened format of the parade severely undermines the image of control and stability that authoritarian leaders project.
