Former FC Bayern Munich defender Martin Demichelis is the new head coach of RB Leipzig. Werner had led the team to a third-place finish and Champions League qualification but left the club after just one season due to internal differences.

Demichelis was most recently with Spanish top-flight side Mallorca. After their relegation, he initially extended his contract but then activated a release clause reportedly worth around €2.5 million. The former defender is considered the preferred choice of RB football director Jürgen Klopp, who pushed for the move.

“Martín combines a clear playing philosophy with high intensity and professional competence,” said RB sporting director Marcel Schäfer. Demichelis himself emphasized: “I come with great respect for the work that has been done here. I want to build on that and continue the path we have taken together with the team.”
