On Saturday, a tragic accident took place in Sipplingen at Lake Constance when a four-year-old girl crossed a level crossing on her balance bike. At that time, the barriers were already closed, and a regional express train struck the child despite an emergency brake being applied. The girl sustained life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to a clinic, where she died from her injuries that night.

Initial information indicates that the level crossing was equipped with half-barriers, which only block half of the roadway and do not cover the opposite lane.
