On Saturday, a tragic accident took place in Sipplingen at Lake Constance when a four-year-old girl crossed a level crossing on her balance bike. At that time, the barriers were already closed, and a regional express train struck the child despite an emergency brake being applied. The girl sustained life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to a clinic, where she died from her injuries that night.

The police and public prosecutor's office have launched investigations to clarify the exact circumstances of the accident. Initial information indicates that the level crossing was equipped with half-barriers, which only block half of the roadway and do not cover the opposite lane. The girl's parents were nearby at the time of the accident, adding to the tragedy of the situation.

About 65 passengers were on the train, all of whom remained physically unharmed. Psychologists and paramedics were deployed to assist the parents, train staff, and other witnesses. The railway company expressed its shock over the incident and extended its condolences to the family. A company spokesperson stated, "Our thoughts and sympathies are with the relatives." Additionally, an emergency manager was assigned to support the train staff after the accident.

Following such incidents, the train driver is typically replaced and sent home to minimize psychological stress. Police investigations are ongoing to examine the exact sequence of events and any potential safety deficiencies.
