At least one person was killed and three others injured in a Russian attack on a grain carrier in the Black Sea, according to Ukrainian officials. Moscow claims the ship was a military target.

At least one person was killed and three others injured in a new Russian attack on a ship in the Black Sea region of Odesa, according to Ukrainian authorities. “This time, a commercial freighter flying the flag of Guinea-Bissau and loaded with Ukrainian wheat was hit,” regional governor Oleh Kiper said on Telegram. The ship’s hull was damaged, and the remaining crew members were brought ashore.

“The enemy continues to attack civilian ships in the Black Sea area without interruption,” Kiper said. “Such attacks once again demonstrate the systematic and cynical nature of Russian terror and the danger the aggressor poses both to civilian lives and to global food security as a whole,” he said.

Russia’s Defense Ministry confirmed the strikes on the Odesa area, saying two ships were hit south and east of Odesa. The ministry accused Ukraine of using grain carriers to transport military goods. The claims could not be independently verified.
