Russia attacked several Ukrainian cities with missiles and drones overnight into Tuesday. At least five people were killed and dozens more wounded in Kyiv, Dnipro and Kharkiv, The Guardian reported. The strikes came after President Volodymyr Zelensky warned on Monday of a possible “massive strike.”
In eastern Dnipro, four people died and 16 were injured, according to Governor Oleksandr Hanzha. All the injured were taken to hospital. Hanzha posted images of heavily damaged residential buildings, burnt-out vehicles, and a destroyed children’s playground.
In Kyiv, at least one person died and 29 were wounded, said Tymur Tkachenko, head of the military administration. A suspected missile strike on a 24-story apartment building caused a partial collapse. Mayor Vitali Klitschko said people were likely trapped under the rubble. A nine-story residential building also caught fire. “In Obolon, cars hit by missile debris are burning. There are fires at two outdoor locations, including near a kindergarten,” Klitschko said.
Thousands of Kyiv residents took shelter in subway stations and other bunkers after an air-raid alert was sounded nationwide early Tuesday. Zelensky had reiterated warnings of a possible major attack in his evening video address on Monday: “Intelligence reports of Russian attacks remain. A massive strike is possible; they have prepared one. Our defenders are on standby around the clock, as best they can with the means currently available.”
