Ballistic missiles struck a building adjacent to Meleshchuk’s apartment in a residential complex, Ukrainian broadcaster 24tv reported. The athlete spent the night in a shelter while the rockets destroyed the entrance to the underground parking garage where people were taking cover. Elevators were also destroyed, and part of the roof collapsed.

Meleshchuk was unharmed and her apartment remained intact. In an Instagram story, she described the destruction: smoke, fire, shattered glass everywhere. She wrote: “I hate Russia and everyone who continues to support it. I hate that there are still people who do not understand that this state is committing genocide against Ukrainians.”

According to the city administration, 35 people were injured in the attack, including two children and a pregnant woman. In addition to residential buildings, several cultural landmarks were also damaged.
