According to the BBC, citing Ukrainian authorities, Russia attacked the capital Kyiv overnight with ballistic missiles, Zircon hypersonic cruise missiles, and Kh-101 cruise missiles. Simultaneously, drones struck Kyiv and other regions. In Kharkiv, five firefighters died when emergency crews were hit by a second Russian missile strike during firefighting operations.

In Kyiv, numerous residential buildings were destroyed. For the first time since the start of the full-scale war, the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra monastery suffered severe damage: the Dormition Cathedral was hit. The Dovzhenko film studio was also destroyed. Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported significant destruction in almost all districts and dozens of injuries. Several neighborhoods lost power after the strikes.

The Air Force reported that the first wave of missiles approached Kyiv from the north and south. Shahed drone attacks had begun the previous evening. After the massive missile barrage ended around 4 a.m., another drone group attacked the city. The all-clear was given at 5:22 a.m. Authorities expect the number of injured and possible fatalities under the rubble to rise.
