Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha blamed Russia for the death of a 22-year-old pregnant woman in Chuhuiv. He accused Moscow of intensifying terror against civilians because it is failing to achieve victories on the battlefield. Sybiha called on the international community to increase pressure on Russia.
Chuhuiv Mayor Halyna Minayeva said the city was shelled with rockets and Iranian Shahed drones. Rescue workers released footage showing burning residential buildings and cars. In Kharkiv, 15 people were injured, according to Regional Governor Oleh Syniehubov.
Meanwhile, the Ukrainian army again attacked the Chonhar Bridge, a key road link to the Russia-annexed Black Sea peninsula of Crimea. Vladimir Saldo, head of the Russian occupation administration in the Kherson region, said the bridge was damaged by drone strikes and closed to traffic. Drivers must take the longer route via Perekop.
The attacks on the bridge are part of a Ukrainian operation that has been running since May and aims to isolate Crimea. The peninsula is militarily significant for Russia: from there, the Russian army launches airstrikes on Ukrainian territory and supplies its units in southern Ukraine. Crimea is accessible only by three roads – the routes via Perekop and Chonhar in the north, and the Kerch Bridge, built after the annexation, in the east. However, the Kerch Bridge is considered too unsafe for fuel transports. Ukraine has already knocked out several ferries to Crimea. Moscow has built a new road along the Sea of Azov, but Ukrainian drones repeatedly destroy military and fuel trucks there. Fuel has already had to be rationed on the peninsula, which was annexed in 2014.
