Russian forces attacked Sumy with drones overnight. An unmanned aerial vehicle struck the roof of a nine-story residential building, according to Ukraine’s State Emergency Service (DSNS).
Rescuers evacuated about 40 residents from the building. Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze that broke out on the roof, the DSNS said. The city of Sumy was rocked by multiple explosions overnight after an air raid alert was issued.
The Sumy region is a regular target of Russian attacks. On June 25, Russian troops shelled a gas station in the city, wounding four people. On June 22, a drone attack on a residential building in the village of Znob-Novhorodske killed three people, including a 13-year-old boy, his 36-year-old father, and his 73-year-old grandmother.
