Russian forces attacked the southern Ukrainian city of Mykolaiv with drones on the night of 10 October, damaging industrial and civilian infrastructure. This was reported by the acting head of the military administration of the Mykolaiv region, Heorhii Reshetilov, on Telegram, as reported by Ukrinform.
“Last night the enemy attacked the industrial and civilian infrastructure of the city of Mykolaiv with Shahed-type drones,” Reshetilov wrote. Windows of an apartment block, shops, office premises and an administrative building were damaged. According to the acting head of the military administration, Russia had already attacked the city with “Banderol” type drones on 9 October. According to the report, the targets were energy and industrial facilities; a heating plant and a hangar were damaged. In addition, according to Reshetilov, Russian units attacked the community of Halytsynivka with FPV drones. In the village of Lymany, a private house and a shop were damaged.
According to earlier reports, a 64-year-old man was killed in Mykolaiv on 9 October, and a woman suffered an acute stress reaction. The current attacks on the night of 10 October caused no fatalities.
How the Russian attacks affect people in the region
The repeated drone attacks on Mykolaiv and the surrounding communities affect people in their daily lives: damaged residential buildings, destroyed shops and offices, interrupted energy supply. The Mykolaiv region lies in the south of Ukraine and is repeatedly the target of Russian air strikes. The Ukrainian Air Force regularly reports a high number of drones and missiles deployed. For example, n-tv.de reported on 9 September 2026, citing the Ukrainian Air Force, that Russia had deployed 196 combat drones in one night as well as an unspecified number of ballistic missiles and Banderol-type cruise missiles. 165 drones were shot down or brought down by electronic defence. There were impacts at 23 locations in Ukraine. Since 11 August 2026, the Ukrainian Air Force has no longer provided precise figures on the number of missiles deployed by Russia and intercepted by Ukraine.
The attacks on civilian and industrial infrastructure in Mykolaiv are part of a series. According to authorities, one person was killed in a Russian drone attack on the city as early as 9 September 2026; port, transport and civilian infrastructure were damaged. On the same day, according to Ukrainian reports, at least two people were killed and three others injured in an attack on a border crossing between Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova near Starokozache. The operation of the border checkpoint was temporarily suspended.
What happens next
The military administration of the Mykolaiv region is likely to examine further damage in the coming hours and initiate repairs to the damaged facilities. As usual, the Ukrainian Air Force will publish a summary of the intercepted attacks in the morning. For the people in Mykolaiv, the situation remains tense: the ongoing attacks on energy and industrial facilities endanger supplies and make everyday life more difficult. A rapid easing of the situation is not in sight.
