Russian propaganda media claim that a hantavirus epidemic is rampant among Ukrainian soldiers in the Kharkiv and Sumy regions. However, this information has been dismissed as untrue by the Center for Strategic Communication and Information Security.
There is no evidence of a massive outbreak of hantavirus among Ukrainian military personnel. In fact, hantavirus infections are rare and are not transmitted from person to person. Only isolated cases of hantavirus fever have been documented in Ukraine.
As reported by Lb.ua, the Center for Public Health of the Ukrainian Ministry of Health explains that hantavirus infection can occur through inhalation of dust or small particles containing the virus. These particles come from the urine, feces, or saliva of infected wild rodents such as mice and voles.
