The attack on May 17 was the most massive drone strike on the Moscow region since the start of Russia’s war of aggression. Ukrainian drones hit targets in 18 Russian regions, including defense industry facilities. Russian propaganda blogger Andriy Klintsevich subsequently admitted that Russia is falling behind in the “technological arms race.”
Klintsevich said Ukraine would be able to deploy up to a thousand drones per day by autumn. Russia does not produce enough anti-aircraft missiles to intercept such a quantity. Moreover, Russian air defense systems were never designed to counter large swarms of cheap drones, whose cost is far below that of a single interceptor missile.
Political scientist Ihor Tschalenko told 24tv that the attack on Moscow has a complex effect beyond the purely military. It simultaneously creates an informational and political impact that will influence the further dynamics of the war. Russia is weakening, and the regime of Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin is disintegrating.
