Markus Söder (CSU) has opposed Defense Minister Boris Pistorius’ (SPD) plans for the Bundeswehr. As WELT reports, Söder warns against weakening the Bundeswehr’s state commands. He sees Germany’s crisis and defense capability at risk.
Söder is thus heading for a confrontation with the defense minister. The state commands are responsible for the Bundeswehr’s cooperation with civilian authorities in the federal states, for example in disaster relief or supporting police operations.
