Wiebke Esdar, deputy chairwoman of the SPD parliamentary group in the Bundestag, has defended the new borrowing planned in the budget draft against criticism. On Deutschlandfunk, she stressed that consolidation and savings had already been made in many areas of the core budget.
The new debt is primarily due to investments in the Bundeswehr, which are sensible and necessary given the international threat situation, Esdar said.
