Grass-court specialist Tatjana Maria continued her impressive run at the WTA tournament in Eastbourne. In the quarterfinals, the 38-year-old defeated Czech player Tereza Valentova 6:3, 7:5. Maria converted her match point after 1 hour and 38 minutes when her opponent made an error.
With this victory, Maria remains without losing a set in Eastbourne and is working her way back toward the top 100 in the world rankings. Reaching the final would bring her back into that circle. In the semifinals on Friday at 12:00 p.m., she will face former French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko from Latvia.
“It will be tough again, she is a very good grass-court player. Now I’ll get treatment first, then I’ll think about tomorrow,” Maria said.
