The ceasefire came into effect today and, in addition to suspending military operations, foresees a planned exchange of 1,000 prisoners on each side, The Guardian reports. Earlier, former U.S. Donald Trump initially announced the agreement on social media; both sides subsequently confirmed the deal.
According to The Guardian, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Moscow’s Red Square is less important than the lives of Ukrainian prisoners who could be brought home. Several outlets also report that Moscow’s Victory Day parade is being held in a scaled-down format.
