US Donald Trump has canceled the “planned attacks and bombings” against Iran that were scheduled for Thursday evening. On his social media platform Truth Social, Trump wrote that discussions with the Islamic Republic of Iran had been brought to the highest level of leadership and approved. The naval blockade, however, remains in full force until the transaction is completed. The location and time of the signing will be announced shortly.

Trump named a series of countries involved in the talks, including the United States, Israel, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Turkey, Pakistan, Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan, and Egypt. The White House has been seeking a peace agreement with Iran for months, which would be a major success for the administration. However, Trump has already claimed dozens of times to be on the verge of a deal and previously stated that the Iranian leadership had agreed to peace terms, which later turned out to be false.

US stock markets reacted positively to Trump’s announcement. The S&P 500 rose 1.3 percent, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 802 points, or 1.6 percent, and the Nasdaq Composite added 1.8 percent. Stock prices jumped immediately after Trump’s post on Truth Social.
