Trump meets Johnson: Stalemate over US voting rights law

US Donald Trump has blocked the signing of a bipartisan housing bill and is demanding the Senate pass his strict voting rights law. According to the Guardian, Trump is meeting with Republican House Mike Johnson to resolve the impasse.

The restrictive voting law, known as the Save Act, passed the House but stalled in the Senate due to Democratic opposition. Johnson proposed including a grant program tied to the bill in a GOP reconciliation package to bypass the filibuster. The Senate adjourned until July 13.

A federal judge in Boston blocked Trump’s executive order to create a national voter database and restrict mail-in voting. Judge Indira Talwani sided with lawsuits from several Democratic-led states, which argued the president unlawfully interfered with state election administration.
