Negotiations between the United States and Iran have stalled, prompting US Donald Trump to increase pressure on Tehran. Trump announced on Truth Social that the US would hit Iran “very hard.” He also threatened a military takeover of Kharg Island, which is crucial to Iran’s oil industry.

Kharg Island in the Persian Gulf is Iran’s most important oil port, handling nearly all of the country’s oil exports. A senior Pentagon official said the US military had long developed plans to seize the island, but they were deemed too risky and shelved.

The US administration believes that capturing the island or destroying its energy infrastructure could drive Iran into bankruptcy and make it impossible to continue the war. However, Trump’s team has also warned that such an operation would require a significant number of ground troops, potentially leading to heavy casualties.

Overnight, there were again fierce exchanges of fire between the US and Iran, despite a formal ceasefire in place for two months. This escalation shows that the conflict continues despite the existing truce.
