Andrij Sybiha, the Ukrainian Foreign Minister, expressed the desire for Europe to assist in reaching an agreement with Russia on a mutual ban on attacks on airports. This was revealed during discussions among EU foreign ministers in Brussels.
Sybiha emphasized that such a step could provide European leaders with a concrete role in the diplomatic process, especially given the stagnation of negotiations under U.S. mediation. He sees the possibility that Russian President Vladimir Putin may be interested in such an agreement, as major Russian airports like Sheremetyevo in Moscow and Pulkovo in St. Petersburg are increasingly vulnerable to Ukrainian attacks.
According to an anonymous European official, the EU responded cautiously to this proposal. It is important to first clarify expectations regarding direct contacts with Moscow to avoid acting recklessly. Senior EU representatives argue that Putin currently shows no serious intentions to end the war.
