Ukrainska Pravda reports that Minister Andrii Sybiha on Sunday called for an emergency session of the UN Security Council as well as a joint meeting of the OSCE Forum for Security Cooperation and the OSCE Permanent Council. The move follows a massive Russian missile attack on the Ukrainian capital overnight on May 24.
Sybiha stated on platform X that he had instructed all Ukrainian missions to international organizations to use the full arsenal of multilateral measures in response to Russia’s “barbaric missile shelling of Kyiv.” “The UN, the OSCE, the Council of Europe, and UNESCO must give the aggressor an adequate and decisive response, who is trying to compensate for the lack of military success on the battlefield through terror against the civilian population,” the minister said verbatim.
Sybiha emphasized that Russian President Vladimir Putin is trying to intimidate Ukraine by attacking residential buildings, museums, schools, and critical infrastructure. At the same time, he is trying to frighten the world by using medium-range missiles against peaceful cities. “All this requires decisive and coordinated action by the international community. We call on our partners to take decisive multilateral actions aimed at deterring Russia and forcing it to a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace,” Sybiha demanded.
France, Germany, Hungary, and EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas condemned the attack.
